Why attend

From booking to departure, a stay crosses several rules: the prices you must display, the money paid at booking, the police registration form for foreign guests, the data you keep, the tourist tax you collect and then pay over. None is complicated, but they are spread across several codes.

In ninety minutes, we take them in the order of the stay, with the official texts, and answer your questions. You will know what applies to your establishment and what to check the very next day. The session is held in French and covers French rules.

Who it is for

For the owner or manager of a hotel and for the front-desk team: reception, bookings, stay invoicing.

  • The owner or manager, to set the house rules: prices, booking conditions, data retention.
  • The front-desk team, to apply these rules at every arrival and every departure.
  • No prior knowledge needed: the training starts from what you already do.

Your questions

  • Displaying your prices. Outside, near the entrance: the price of the next night in a double room, or failing that a maximum price, and whether breakfast and internet access are included. At reception: check-in and check-out times. In the room: the prices of additional services.
  • Bookings. Unless the contract says otherwise, money paid in advance counts as “arrhes”: a guest who cancels loses it, a hotelier who cancels pays back twice the amount. There is no withdrawal right for a room booked for a set date, provided the guest has been told. A booking made at a distance is confirmed on a durable medium, such as an e-mail.
  • The police registration form. The hotelier fills it in, or has it filled in, and has every foreign guest sign it on arrival; it is kept for six months and handed to the police or gendarmerie on request.
  • Your guests’ data. A hotelier may ask to see an identity document, not copy it. We cover what you may ask for, how to inform guests, and how long to keep each piece of data.
  • Tourist tax. Actual or flat-rate, as decided by the municipality; one rate per category, between a legal floor and ceiling; exemptions, including minors and seasonal workers employed in the municipality; collection before departure, the line on the stay invoice, then the return and payment on the dates set by the municipality.
